La Mesa, Bring on the Heat

These gardeners wanted a space that invited more time in the Summer sun and plenty of fresh ingredients to go with it. We filled their raised beds with juicy tomatoes, a rainbow of peppers, and heat-loving herbs perfect for homemade salsas and their famous spicy guacamole (a neighborhood favorite). Fresh flowers, like marigolds and zinnias, added bursts of color and pollinator support, rounding out a garden that’s as lively and flavorful as the meals made from it.
